Afrobeats superstar Davido has directly appealed to United States President Donald Trump, urging international attention on the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
In a strongly worded post on X on Tuesday, the singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, tagged the US president and raised concerns about possible tension, violence, and intimidation.
“A CALL FOR ATTENTION TO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP
President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.
There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.
I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected.
We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” he wrote.
The post comes just hours after Davido intensified his political messaging in support of his uncle, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking a second term on the Accord Party platform.
On Monday, reacting to a video of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, praising Adeleke during the commissioning of the Ile-Ife flyover and road dualisation project, Davido took aim at the opposition.
“APC is just backward. Why would they be doing anything to stop progress? I thought y’all were progressive?” he posted.
He followed up with another sharp message:
“Anybody supporting APC in Osun state is an enemy of progress! Lessons will be learnt this weekend.”
The singer, who was appointed Youth Mobilisation officer for his uncle’s campaign, has been highly visible in Osun in recent weeks. He had earlier warned during a livestream that he would involve Trump if the election process was compromised. Tuesday’s formal appeal marks the fulfilment of that earlier statement.
