Veteran Yoruba actor Remy Shittabey has revealed that he still carries the pain of an unresolved feud with Nollywood legend Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello.
In a recent interview on Agbaletu TV, Shittabey disclosed that despite repeated apologies, the senior actor has refused to forgive him. He insisted he never deliberately offended Oga Bello and continues to regard him with deep respect and affection.
“I love Oga Bello so much, and he knows it, but he doesn’t like me because he believes I offended him. I didn’t offend him, but he thinks I did. There is nothing he wants to do that I wouldn’t attend or honour his invitation to. I have always seen him as a father,” Shittabey said.
The actor painted a warm picture of their early relationship. In his struggling days, he and the late Alade Aromire would trek to Oga Bello’s house in Ebute Meta, where the veteran often fed them and gave them money.
“Back when he lived in Ebute Meta I saw him as a father, Alade Aromire and I used to trek to his house. He is very generous, so whenever we were broke, we knew we would eat there, and he would even give us money before we left.”
Despite the closeness, a misunderstanding later created a lasting rift. Shittabey admitted the fallout has cost him professionally.
“He believes I offended him, and although I have begged him, he hasn’t forgiven me. Because of that, I lost many opportunities since he is often the deciding factor in certain things, and once he makes a decision, it is final. I don’t want to say more about it, but I still love him to this day.”
Shittabey stopped short of detailing the exact incident that sparked the offence, choosing instead to emphasise his continued admiration for the industry pioneer. The disclosure has drawn attention to the quiet tensions that sometimes exist among veterans in the entertainment industry and the lasting impact of unresolved conflicts on careers.
