Media personality Morayo Afolabi Brown has opened up about a disturbing phone call in which an angry caller rained curses on her, leaving her visibly shaken and questioning why doing her job attracts such hostility.

In a heartfelt video shared on her Instagram page, Morayo recounted the unsettling experience:

“Yesterday, I got a call from somebody who raised curses on me… ‘koni da fun e’ and so many other unprintable words… for somebody to have the privilege of having my phone number and calling me and raising curses on me… what’s my sin?”

The former TVC host explained that the attack stemmed from questions she asked guests on her show. She referenced previous backlash over her interview with Babatunde Fashola on religion, Ireti Doyle on her marriage, and other probing moments.

“First it was why I asked Mr Fashola about religion. Then, it was why I asked Aunty Ireti Doyle about her marriage… Now this? News Flash, I’m no novice. I have earned the place to ask questions as I deem fit. As long as my guests don’t feel humiliated, disappointed or dishonoured, I’ve done my job,” she asserted.

Morayo emphasised that she respects boundaries, sometimes sharing questions in advance or allowing guests to highlight off-limit topics. She admitted growing up in an environment where such aggressive cursing was not normalised, making the incident even more disturbing.

Several Nollywood stars rallied to her defence.

Toyin Abraham, whom Morayo recently interviewed, wrote:

“I had so much positivity on the show. Thanks for having me. It’s fine, sis. Kindly ignore her, please.”

Deyemi Okanlawon praised her professionalism:

“I am so sorry about this lunacy. I totally appreciated how you saw immediately that I wasn’t emotionally ready to give an answer and gracefully let it be.”

Shola Kosoko and her former co-host Tope Mark Odigie also offered words of encouragement and prayers for strength.

The incident has sparked wider conversations about the toxic side of public discourse in Nigeria, where journalists and interviewers often face harassment for asking tough but necessary questions. Many have urged Morayo to stay strong, while others called for better protection of media personalities from such personal attacks.
