Yoruba Nollywood actress Olamide Odunlade has opened up about the tough personal sacrifice she made for her acting passion, revealing she ended a relationship that could have led to marriage because her then-fiancé’s mother gave her an ultimatum to choose between her career and the relationship.
In a revealing interview with Potpourri, the talented actress disclosed that she had no hesitation in picking acting over the relationship when faced with the difficult choice.
“My ex-fiancé’s mum called me and asked me to choose between her son and my career, and I chose my career because I believe in myself and my craft. I chose acting because I have had passion for it right from childhood. I have always played lead roles in drama productions and I love acting a lot. It is my life.”
Olamide, who has featured in numerous productions and also ventured into movie production emphasised that acting remains her first love and lifelong passion.
The actress also shared her strong views on trust in relationships, stating she would never stay in a union where trust has been broken.
“Trust is very important to me when dating someone. If my partner can’t trust me, I am ending the relationship because issues of infidelity can affect one’s health. The same applies to me. If I can’t trust you, I will walk away. Love is one thing, trust is another. Without trust, love is meaningless.”
On the role of money in relationships, Olamide was pragmatic, noting that while love is beautiful, financial stability is crucial for everyday life.
“Money pays bills, not love. Money solves problems, not love. Love is beautiful and important, and we all need it in our lives, but without money, life becomes difficult.”
Her candid revelations highlight the sacrifices many actresses make in pursuit of their dreams and the challenges of balancing career ambitions with personal relationships in the competitive entertainment industry.
