Nollywood actor Jide Awobona has strongly condemned netizens who use Temi Otedola’s elegant pregnancy journey to shame and insult other pregnant women, reminding everyone that no two pregnancies are the same.

The actor, who recently welcomed a child with his partner, spoke out after noticing disappointing comments comparing other expectant mothers unfavourably to Temi Otedola’s graceful maternity photos and experience.

“Pregnancy journeys are different. Every woman experiences pregnancy differently, and sometimes, the same woman can react differently to different pregnancies she carries.”

He acknowledged Temi’s beautiful journey while calling for respect:

“Firstly, I wish Temi a safe delivery and pray for a smooth and beautiful journey into motherhood. It has honestly been beautiful watching how gracefully and beautifully she has carried her pregnancy, and I truly admire it.”

However, he expressed disappointment at the trending conversations:

“While seeing some of the trending conversations around it, I also came across some really disappointing comments… people using her experience to shame other women, calling some women dramatic and acting as though every pregnancy experience should look the same.”

Awobona highlighted that many women only show the world what they choose to reveal, and strength manifests differently. He gave real-life examples of women who remained active and strong during pregnancy, including a ‘Mama Sadiq’ who fetched water and delivered her baby the same morning, and others who stayed creative and active despite their condition.

“What many people do not understand is that a woman often shows you only what she chooses for the world to see. Strength comes in different forms, and not every struggle is visible.”

The actor concluded by urging respect for women:

“Please respect women, respect their bodies, respect their strength, and most especially respect MOTHERS.”

This message comes shortly after Temi Otedola and her husband Mr Eazi announced their pregnancy with a stunning white-themed maternity shoot. While many celebrated the couple, some used the post to body-shame and call other pregnant women names.

Jide Awobona’s intervention has been praised by many for promoting empathy and understanding during one of the most vulnerable periods in a woman’s life.
