Afrobeats superstar Davido has moved millions with a powerful and emotional tribute to the abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo State, using his global stage at the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles to demand their safe return.
On June 10, 2026, the “Unavailable” singer stepped onto the stage at the Crypto.com Arena wearing a black customised jacket covered with tags bearing the names of the 39 kidnapped schoolchildren and 7 teachers. The back of the jacket boldly carried the message “Bring Them Home”, while he wore a white shirt printed with “Nigeria” underneath.
Davido shared the moment with a heartfelt message:
“With all the issues going on in Nigeria, these are the names of all the abducted children and teachers, and the ones in red are the ones who lost their lives. May their souls rest in peace. I pray for peace and love everywhere. May God be with them and their families; it is really a very sad situation; they still haven’t been rescued. I pray the government hastens.”
The gesture comes weeks after bandits attacked Community High School in Ahoro-Esinele, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, abducting students and teachers. Some of the victims reportedly lost their lives in the horrific incident, deepening national grief and outrage.
By displaying the names and the urgent plea on such an international platform, Davido has successfully drawn global attention to the ongoing security crisis and amplified calls for the immediate rescue of the remaining hostages.
The singer’s action has been widely praised online, with many Nigerians commending him for using his influence to speak for the voiceless at a time when the nation continues to battle rising cases of kidnapping and banditry.
