Controversial singer Portable has unleashed a fiery rant against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing the anti-graft agency of selective persecution while ignoring bigger national crises like banditry and kidnapping.
In a now viral video, the outspoken artiste, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, rejected an EFCC invitation letter sent to him for allegedly mutilating the naira at an event. He claimed the agency is targeting him because of his support for President Bola Tinubu and his Yoruba ethnicity.
“Nigeria is bleeding! We cannot continue to fear you guys! Nobody fears you anymore! Every one including you guys fear the bandits now.”
He pointed to the recent case involving ex-militant leader Tompolo, who was seen in a viral video being sprayed with money during his birthday celebration, yet faced no immediate severe consequences.
“Tompolo stepped on money, nothing happened. EFCC sent me a letter to invite me, I only held money in my hand and I’m getting invited for it because I’m Yoruba.”
Portable further alleged ethnic bias:
“Igbos and Hausa spray money and don’t get invited, Cubana Chief Priest and Emoney spray money but they don’t get an invite.”
The singer issued a strong warning:
“I will join protest now! If anything happens to me, Nigeria will divide!”
He insisted he is clean, stating:
“I don’t do money laundering, I don’t scam, I don’t do anything illegal, so what’s my offense? They’re after me because I support Tinubu.”
Portable expressed frustration over facing more problems in Nigeria than during his international performances.
“I’ve been all over the world to perform and I never get as much problems as I get in Nigeria!”
