Nollywood actress Jaiye Kuti has firmly denied accusations that her recent Instagram post was a subtle attack on Bolaji Ogunmola’s movie Ajosepo 2: The Gathering over cinema showtime allocations.
The drama unfolded after Jaiye took to social media on Sunday to express frustration about the poor screening schedule of her own film, Jaiyeola Monje: The Anniversary, which she said was already losing showtimes after just one week in cinemas.
Sharing a screenshot of the limited timings, she wrote:
“AJOSEPOWA tifebaje!!! I’m just a week old at the cinemas, and I’m already out of showtime? Hmmm Please, who comes to the cinema at this time of the day to watch movies?”
Many netizens quickly interpreted the word “AJOSEPO” as a deliberate reference to Ajosepo 2, sparking claims that she was shading the film for allegedly dominating better showtimes.
In her swift clarification, Jaiye insisted the post was completely misunderstood.
“I wrote in my language Yoruba AJOSEPO which could mean many things, what I meant was our collaboration with cinemas, yet some people twisted it to mean a movie.”
She maintained that her complaint was solely about unfair cinema scheduling practices and not targeted at any particular film or colleague.
This latest exchange adds fresh fuel to the growing tension in Nollywood over cinema showtimes, as several producers and actresses, including Bolaji Ogunmola, have recently voiced concerns about distribution challenges and perceptions of favouritism. Bolaji had earlier denied sabotaging other films while highlighting her own struggles with late or limited slots.
