Afrobeats superstar Davido has hit back hard at critics who accused him of being performative after he publicly cried out about the sorry state of Nigeria, boldly clarifying his long-standing relationship with Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
The “Timeless” singer had earlier lamented the silence of entertainers on national issues, declaring:
“I can’t lie, we entertainers, we f*ck up, I wouldn’t lie, including me. We need to speak up, it’s too much injustice going on. Our country has gone.”
His passionate outburst drew sharp criticism from some netizens who called him out for hypocrisy, pointing to his friendship with Seyi Tinubu and alleged membership in the “City Boys” group chat.
In a no-holds-barred response, Davido shut down the attacks and set the record straight about his ties with the president’s son. Davido fired back saying:
“I am not part of any city boy group. When I called out the government on American media, you guys rained curses on me. I’ve been friends with ST for years, and that’s where it stops, and I call and complain to him all the time, even in person.”
The singer made it clear that while he maintains a personal friendship with Seyi Tinubu that spans several years, it does not stop him from speaking his mind on issues affecting the country. He emphasized that their bond remains unchanged despite public pressure.
Over the years, Davido has been deeply involved in politics, particularly in Osun State, where he campaigned vigorously for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
