Nollywood actress Temi Kosoko has defended her colleagues in the entertainment industry, stating that divorce is not a new phenomenon but becomes highly publicised when it involves actors.
The daughter of veteran actor Jide Kosoko made the remarks during an interview with Oyinmomo TV. She noted that while divorce occurs regularly across society, celebrity marriages attract intense scrutiny and widespread discussion.
“Divorce happens every month worldwide. It’s not a new thing that people get divorced. The problem is that when actors divorce, it becomes popular and very public.”
She further explained that the reasons behind marital breakdowns are varied and not necessarily linked to an acting career.
“There are so many reasons people divorce. It might not even have anything to do with their work.”
Temi also opened up about challenges she faces in her own career, revealing that many people assume her success comes solely from her father’s influence.
“I work hard, and sometimes it just hurts that people don’t see my hard work. They say it’s because of my father’s name. Yes, to be honest, it is my father’s name that has brought me this far.”
She highlighted the stereotype that children of popular actors are often perceived as proud or entitled.
“A lot of people think we are proud. When we enter a room, even without speaking, they already assume we are proud. That was the beginning of the problem.”
Her comments come at a time when several high-profile celebrity divorces and relationship issues continue to dominate headlines in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Temi Kosoko’s perspective calls for a more balanced view of personal struggles faced by public figures.
