Popular Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has sparked intense debate after openly declaring he would happily quit acting and become a full-time house husband if his wife earns between 1 and 10 million dollars annually. The father of three made the candid revelation during a recent episode of the Tea with Tay podcast.
Deyemi did not mince words as he shared his views on gender roles and family dynamics.
“I pray, God please, let my wife get into a business where she makes 1-10 million dollars per annum you won’t see me act again—I’ll be her house husband. There’s money, what am I looking for again?”
He added that he would fully embrace domestic responsibilities, even joking about learning to cook. The actor stressed the importance of personal value over traditional expectations.
“My only prayer is that as a human being —no matter the gender— I should be valuable to my family.”
Deyemi acknowledged that many men feel uncomfortable with reversed financial roles.
“I find that a lot of men are not comfortable with that dynamic and so, they’re already hypersensitive.”
While he noted that genders have different strengths, he said he doesn’t “believe that those strengths are equal.”
The 45-year-old actor, who has been married to his wife Damilola since January 2013, is known for his successful career in Nollywood. He has featured in major productions including King of Boys: The Return of the King, Blood Sisters, and several box office hits. The couple shares three sons.
Deyemi’s willingness to flip traditional scripts has ignited fresh conversations about modern marriages, provision, and partnership in Nigerian marriages.
