Veteran television host Frank Edoho has shared inspiring details about his humble beginnings on Nigeria’s iconic game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, revealing that he earned a modest ₦100,000-something per month during the first two years despite projecting an image of wealth on screen.

Speaking at a recent seminar, the long-time host recounted the early days of the show.

“On Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, the first two years of my salary per month was a hundred and something thousand naira. But I had to wear a suit as if I owned all the money.”

Edoho explained that his earnings improved dramatically after MTN came on board as sponsor. He decided to negotiate directly with the production company owner. When asked how much he wanted, he gave a figure he never expected to be accepted. To his surprise, the boss agreed and even offered three months’ back pay.

Following the improved pay, greater opportunities opened up for him.

“The rewards came in. I was hosting events all over the place. I was flying and doing all kinds of things.”

The presenter, who hosted the Nigerian version of the global franchise for over 13 years, also reflected on the personal challenges he faced while maintaining a professional front. He advised on the importance of compartmentalising troubles and staying focused on the prize.

Frank Edoho’s revelation has generated massive reactions online, with many Nigerians drawing comparisons between the value of ₦100,000+ in the mid-2000s and current economic realities.
