Laide Bakare's Shocking Confession: I Introduced Clubbing to My Daughter at 17Photo Credit: Google

Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has set a clear boundary in her approach to dating, declaring that no man will be allowed into her home until marriage is official. The mother of three made the revelation during an interview with actress and director Ayo Adesanya, where she opened up about her views on love, responsibility and relationships.

Laide was direct and unapologetic about her stance.

“No man can come to my house until we are married.”

She explained that any intimate moments would take place at the man’s house, not hers.

“We will do anything in his house, but if he wants to come to my house, he should pay the bride price.”

She emphasised traditional gender roles and heteronormativity.

“He is the man; he should be responsible. He should come and carry me to his house. How can you be coming to my house and not putting a ring on it? It is better for me to hang my clothes in your house than for you to hang your clothes in my house.”

When discussing love itself, Laide drew a distinction between deep affection and the practical respect she believes is more sustainable.

“I don’t love o, let’s leave love aside. I like, I appreciate and respect, but I don’t like love.”

The actress has been married twice in the past. Her first marriage was to American-based businessman Olumide Okufulure, with whom she shares a daughter, Simi. That union ended after a few years. In 2012, she entered a secret marriage with Alhaji Mutairu Atanda Orilowo, and they had two sons together. The marriage ended after Orilowo was declared wanted by the EFCC in 2014.

Laide has consistently maintained that she is guided by her values and past experiences, choosing to protect her peace and that of her children.
