Seyi Law Issues Apology After ‘Nigeria Is Safer’ Remark

Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has publicly apologized after facing widespread backlash over his claim that Nigeria is safer today than it was a decade ago, a statement many critics described as disconnected from the country’s current security realities.

The controversy began after the outspoken entertainer, widely known for his political views and vocal support for Bola Tinubu, made the remark during an appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast.

His comment quickly sparked heated reactions online, with many Nigerians accusing him of downplaying the growing concerns around terrorism, kidnapping and violent attacks across the country.

Following intense public criticism, the comedian issued an apology in a video shared via Instagram, admitting his statement was insensitive.

“My fellow Nigerians, I owe you this & more. I’m sincerely sorry for such an insensitive statement that I made on the Honest Bunch podcast. I’m not someone who would be too proud or very insensitive to apologize when he makes mistakes.”

Reflecting further, he acknowledged the emotional weight of his earlier remark and its impact on victims of insecurity.

“I had looked at that statement and I think it is quite insensitive to those who have had an issue with kidnapping, relatives been killed and all that. I want to sincerely and unreservedly tender an apology to those who that statement has hurt. I believe that statement is very insensitive.”

In a notable shift in tone, he also urged the president to intensify efforts toward improving national safety, calling for stronger action to protect citizens.

The apology marks a significant U-turn from his earlier stance and signals growing pressure on public figures to address national concerns with greater sensitivity, especially on issues as serious as public safety.
