Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake has been crowned the most-streamed artist on Spotify in Nigeria, cementing his dominance in the country’s digital music space.
The streaming platform made the announcement while celebrating five years of operations across Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana.
“Celebrating 5 years of Spotify in Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana, powered by you,” the company said in an official statement, crediting listeners for its rapid growth in the region.
Asake led a powerful lineup of Nigerian music heavyweights, topping fellow stars including Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, and Seyi Vibez.
His hit single Remember emerged as the most-streamed track in the country, while Lonely at the Top also secured a spot among the top five songs Nigerians played the most.
Spotify also revealed that Nigerian listeners have created more than 25 million playlists in the past five years, with the average listener aged just 26, a sign of the country’s young and highly digital audience.
Asake’s streaming dominance reflects the growing power of his unique sound, a vibrant blend of street pop, mainstream Afrobeats, and high-energy rhythms that thrive on platforms like TikTok.
His global rise accelerated with the release of Lungu Boy, which made history as the first African project to top Spotify’s global debut chart, a milestone that further positioned him among the continent’s biggest music exports.
As Spotify expands across Africa, Asake’s latest achievement highlights not only his personal success but also the unstoppable global rise of Nigerian music. With record-breaking streams, viral hits, and international chart impact, the singer’s reign reflects the growing worldwide appetite for Afrobeats.
