Nigerian filmmaker Biodun Stephen has shared an emotional story about undergoing circumcision as a child, describing the experience as deeply painful and unforgettable.
The actress and producer opened up during a recent episode of Diary of a Naija Girl, where she spoke about how the procedure happened when she was just six years old.
According to her, the act was carried out by her grandmother as part of a cultural tradition passed down through generations in her family.
“In my own case, it was my grandma. I think my mum was too, so it is a culture for them because I remember that I was six when I went for circumcision. So I remember it vividly, the pain,” she said.
Stephen recalled that she did not understand what was happening at the time. She said she trusted her grandmother and followed her without fear, not knowing what awaited her.
“I mean, I was six, I did not know what was going on, and I loved my grandma… They allowed me play, made me feel comfortable… Next thing, they asked me to lie down… the pain was searing,” she recounted.
Her revelation has sparked conversations online about childhood experiences, cultural practices, and the long-lasting memories such events can leave. Many listeners praised her courage for speaking openly about a deeply personal part of her past.
