Nollywood star Funke Akindele has once again rewritten the record books, taking Nigerian cinema to new heights in Canada and North America.
The actress and filmmaker, widely known as the Box Office Queen, announced that her 2025 cinema release, Behind The Scenes, has become the highest-grossing Nollywood film ever in Canada, earning $111,256 within days of its release.
The record-breaking run did not stop there. The film also pulled in $190,249 across North American cinemas, making it the biggest Nollywood release ever in the region.
With these milestones, Funke Akindele’s total box office earnings have now crossed ₦2.2 billion, further cementing her dominance in the industry.
Taking to her Instagram page to share the news, an emotional Akindele expressed deep gratitude to fans across the globe, describing the moment as overwhelming.
“I’m honestly overwhelmed with gratitude, and I don’t take any of this for granted,” she wrote.
She gave special recognition to Canadian audiences who turned out massively during the film’s opening weekend.
“Canada, wow… thank you! You made the opening weekend unforgettable. In just 3 days, you showed BEHIND THE SCENES so much love, and this milestone means more to me than words can express.”
Funke also praised fans in the United States for their overwhelming support.
“To my amazing family in the USA, thank you for showing up and showing love. Your support has been incredible, and it truly touches my heart to see how you’ve embraced this film.”
She extended her appreciation to audiences back home and across West Africa.
“To Nigeria and Ghana, my precious FANmily, thank you for always standing with me. You inspire me, you push me, and you remind me why I do this.”
Reflecting on her journey, Akindele said the success of Behind The Scenes reinforced her belief in faith, consistency, and divine grace.
“This journey has taught me that while hard work, consistency, and growth are important, it is truly God’s mercy and your unwavering love that make everything come together. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for riding this journey with me. I’m forever grateful.”
Earlier, Behind The Scenes had already smashed local records after grossing ₦2.1 billion within one month of its cinema run in Nigeria.
The film also surpassed her 2024 blockbuster Everybody Loves Jenifa, which ended its run at ₦1.6 billion.
With this latest achievement, Funke Akindele continues to stand tall as one of Nollywood’s most successful filmmakers, proving once again that Nigerian stories can dominate screens far beyond Africa.
