I Smoked for 27 Years, Started at 13 — Tonto Dikeh Opens Up on Addiction, Anger, and Spiritual Deliverance

Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has given a deeply emotional testimony, revealing that she smoked cigarettes for 27 years after starting at the age of 13, alongside struggles with alcohol addiction, masturbation, and what she described as long-term anger issues.

The actress shared her story during a Sunday service at Streams of Joy International Church, during the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD) service led by the church’s founder, Pastor Jerry Eze.

A video of the testimony, shared by DCLImagery on YouTube, has since gone viral across social media.

Speaking openly before the congregation, Dikeh traced the roots of her smoking habit to her teenage years.

“I smoked since I was 13,” she said. “God healed me from masturbation, too. I have known myself to have sexual intercourse in the dream ever since I was a child.”

She described her appearance at the altar as both a thanksgiving and a public declaration of freedom, admitting that fear of public perception almost stopped her from sharing her testimony.

“The devil tried to tell me that I was supposed to protect my image. But I told myself, what image? The God that gave me the image is the same God that can take it away.”

According to the actress, her transformation became clearer after attending the Ghana Prayer Conference, where she said years of spiritual oppression suddenly lifted.

“I realised that the weak man who held me captive all my years in my dream ran away.”

She described the moment as a defining shift in her spiritual life.

Beyond addiction, Dikeh also spoke about battling what she termed “demonic anger,” which she said affected her relationships and personal life for years.

“An anger that destroyed my life. Everybody had to feel it.”

She credited her healing to prayers during NSPPD.

“But praying with NSPPD, God took all of those away and gave me peace.”

In a striking admission, the actress revealed she only recently experienced peace for the first time in her life.

“I am 40 years old, and I can tell you I have never known peace until now. I am living in it.”

Tonto Dikeh disclosed that her smoking habit lasted 27 years, adding that early exposure at home played a role.

“I started smoking because my dad was a smoker. Something as little as that habit can inhabit the lives of your children.”

She used the moment to caution parents about the influence of harmful habits around young children.

The actress said after praying for divine intervention, her body no longer craves cigarettes or alcohol.

“My body does not ask for it. My body is repelling it. Today, it is broken.”

Following her testimony, Pastor Jerry Eze prayed for her, declaring that “the body of sin is broken” and describing her as “a voice in her generation.”

Tonto Dikeh later shared photos from the church service on Instagram, captioning them “A living testimony of mercy. One God spared, restored, and commissioned.”

In recent months, the actress has repeatedly spoken about her renewed Christian faith, describing this season of her life as one marked by peace, restoration, and a deeper commitment to God.
