Edo Assembly Summons 2Baba’s Wife Natasha Over Viral UK Incident, Nigerians React

The Edo State House of Assembly has summoned Natasha Osawaru, wife of music legend Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, over a viral video showing her in a heated altercation with the singer in the United Kingdom; a clash that allegedly led to 2Baba being handcuffed in public.

The Assembly issued Natasha a 7-day ultimatum to appear before its Standing Committee on Ethics and Privileges to answer questions on what lawmakers described as “public misconduct capable of dragging the House into disrepute.”

Natasha, who represents Egor Constituency in the Edo Assembly, has been at the center of online reports suggesting that her actions abroad embarrassed both her office and the legislative institution she represents.

During plenary, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku expressed frustration over what he described as the “negative trend” associated with Natasha in the last week.

“Distinguished members, of recent, this Honourable House… has been dragged to the mud for too long by our colleague, Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru,” he said. “For the past week, she has been trending negatively on both electronic and social media platforms… We want to let the public know that this House is a decent and reputable House… So the attitude or misconduct of a member cannot drag the House to disrepute.”

The Speaker directed Natasha to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against her, adding that the Ethics Committee must submit its report within two weeks.

The summons has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians comparing Natasha’s case to other high-profile marital controversies involving political figures.

@chyspace1 said, “Nobody invited Pa Ned Nwoko for explanations.” @MimiWilfred said, “Edo House of Assembly is even more responsible than the Nigerian Senate as it stands now.” @4everfavoured questioned the situation, “But why them no invite Pa Chinedu too.”

@Mollyswts noted, “She wants to turn our legend into a small stout.” @zsavier_optimum_hair said, “As a senator, she should be well-behaved.” @Tolanteeno predicted, “Tubaba is probably attending the hearing right beside her.”

All eyes are now on the Edo State House of Assembly as Natasha is expected to appear before the Ethics Committee within the 7-day deadline.

Whether the session will calm the controversy or escalate political and marital drama further remains to be seen.
