AY and I Had Issues but Never Fought — Basketmouth Slams VDM and Mr Jollof for Fighting on Flight

Nigerian comedian Basketmouth has weighed in on the viral physical altercation between social activist VeryDarkMan and comedian Mr Jollof, describing the incident as “embarrassing” and unnecessary.

Earlier reports confirmed that the pair engaged in a heated fight aboard a United Nigeria Airlines flight, travelling from Asaba, Delta State to Lagos. A viral video showed the two men trading punches inside the tightly packed aircraft, leaving passengers stunned and causing a delay.

Reacting in a video circulating online, Basketmouth expressed disbelief that two public figures could resort to violence in such a confined and sensitive space.

Drawing a comparison to his long-standing rift with fellow comedian Ayo Makun (AY), he said:

“AY and I had issues for a very long time, but we never exchanged punches. How did we get here? Why can’t we live in love? As tight as a plane is, Mr Jollof and VDM still found a space to fight. This is embarrassing.”

He questioned the escalating culture of public confrontations among celebrities, noting that disagreements should never reach the point of physical violence, especially not on a commercial flight.

Basketmouth and AY’s feud spanned years, allegedly sparked by a ₦30,000 payment dispute. AY previously claimed in an interview with Chude Jideonwo that Basketmouth refused to pay him, removing his name from certain events. Basketmouth denied this, insisting they were never friends, and that the situation was far more complicated.

AY later revealed on Teju Babyface’s show that he had made several attempts to reconcile with him and comedian Julius Agwu but eventually gave up, saying he would be content going to his grave knowing he tried.

However, in a surprising twist back in October, He publicly apologised to AY and anyone in the industry he might have offended: He called for peace and harmony, urging the industry to move past old grievances.

AY accepted with grace, celebrating Basketmouth on his birthday and calling him “Eze Gburugburu 1.” Basketmouth, in return, thanked him warmly.

With VDM and Mr Jollof now trending for the wrong reasons, Basketmouth’s calm reflection has sparked fresh conversation on maturity, conflict resolution, and public conduct among celebrities.
