Nigerian singer and entertainer, Slimcase, has voiced his frustration over what he describes as the growing oversaturation in the Afrobeats music scene.
Taking to his Instagram story, the “Shaku Shaku” crooner lamented that artists are releasing too many songs and albums, making the genre less exciting.
In his words:
“Too many songs, too many albums. Una too dey put una self for pressure for this Niger sha. Take a chill pill and be like Rihanna. Do other things and come back, give us a fresh vibe.”
Slimcase went on to explain that the constant flood of new releases is making Afrobeats lose its originality and thrill.
“Your sounds are getting boring ’cause dem dey come too much in a year. I owe dem a song this year and that’s it. It’s only God that is new every morning. Everyday, every second, singles and albums dey kill Afrobeats gradually. It’s not fun anymore.”
His statement quickly stirred reactions online, with fans sharing mixed opinions: some agreeing with his perspective, while others urged Slimcase to back his words with action.
@oreoluwa.101 wrote, “Sense, but at times don’t go too long, we may forget you.” @onyinye_joy3030 joked, “If e reach your turn, no drop album back to back 😂.”
@blessed_mikky said, “Well, you have stayed 3 years now, we are waiting for your comeback.” While @e2k_officialz disagreed, saying, “Drop your own music, nor get end. Let them keep the vibe going, everybody must not do like Rihanna.”
And @black_kaftan added humorously, “Na so Sky B take turn upcoming.”
Slimcase’s comments come at a time when conversations around Afrobeats’ evolution, streaming pressures, and creative burnout among Nigerian artists are becoming more common.
