Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has finally addressed the wave of criticism trailing her over a viral video showing her daughter at a nightclub.
The actress came under fire after publicly stating that she introduced her 17-year-old daughter, Similoluwa Bakare, to clubbing and alcohol; a statement that immediately sparked outrage among fans and critics.
However, in a new post on her Instagram page, Laide clarified that her words were misunderstood and that she never introduced her daughter to alcohol.
Sharing a short video from the birthday after-party, the actress wrote:
“So we just found the video @simlineboss in da club for her after party, but I didn’t introduce her to alcoholic drinks. It was a slip of tongue. Sorry, my bad.”
In another post, she reaffirmed her innocence, saying:
“Simlineboss and I are innocent. My birthday is in a few days. October 7th on my mind. @laide.bakarehub is sorry.”
The actress emphasized that her intention was not to corrupt her daughter but to give her a sense of controlled exposure as she grows into adulthood.
Her apology comes after social media users accused her of poor parenting and setting a wrong example. Despite the backlash, Laide maintained that her daughter remains a “good girl” and a “better version” of herself.
Last month, Laide hosted a lavish 17th birthday party for Similoluwa at Oriental Hotel, Lagos, attended by notable Nollywood figures including Biola Bayo and Ayo Olaiya. During the event, Similoluwa broke down in tears as she praised her mother’s sacrifices and love.
While the controversy continues to stir online conversations, Laide Bakare seems focused on moving past it, using her recent posts to rebuild trust with fans and remind the public that she is, in her own words, “just a mother trying her best.”
