Popular Nigerian disc jockey and billionaire heiress, Florence Otedola, better known as DJ Cuppy, has expressed deep patriotism as Nigeria marked its 65th Independence anniversary.
In a heartfelt post shared via her official X handle, Dj Cuppy described Nigeria as her “birthplace, home, and country,” while praising the resilience of its citizens.
“Through it all, our people keep persevering and finding joy even in the toughest times… God didn’t rush when He made us!!! He gave us resilience and spirit. In my next life, would STILL choose to be Nigerian,” she wrote.
Her message quickly went viral, stirring mixed reactions online. While some praised her optimism, many Nigerians felt her privilege shielded her from the country’s harsh realities.
One user, @evelyn___xx, commented: “Florence, anyone coming as privileged as you are will definitely choose to be a Nigerian. The corrupt system favours the extremely privileged like you.”
@lincolnofficial reacted: “We will definitely shuffle families.” @blessing_ekaka quipped: “In my next life, I will try USA.” @therealdonwilly added: “But come as a rich kid ooo… make una tell am oooo.”
@deacon_boyy noted: “Trust me, if you come in a different family in Ajegunle, you go regret this talk.” @iamsu_su_ joked: “That’s your cup of ogogoro my sister.”
Despite the criticisms, Cuppy’s post highlighted the enduring debate around patriotism, privilege, and what it truly means to be Nigerian in today’s society.
