Pregnant lawyer Bolanle Raheem killed by policeman on Christmas Day buried
Bolanle Raheem, the pregnant lawyer shot dead by a policeman in the Ajah area of Lagos State on Christmas Day, has been buried.
Mrs Raheem was fatally shot by Assistant Superintendent of Police Drambi Vandi while driving home with members of her family after church service.
She was buried at Vaults and Gardens (Mayfair) in Awoyaya along the Lekki-Epe Expressway on Tuesday, January 17 after a funeral service at the Olive Tree Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Banana Island.
Delivering a sermon at the service, Okechukwu Enelamah, a former minister of industry, trade and investment, said Raheem’s “relatively short life” was full of great impact.
Enelamah said the circumstances that led to the death of the lawyer have elicited widespread reactions that will bring about reforms in the society.
Ibrahim Obanikoro, representing Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in the house of Representatives, was also at the funeral service.
“I attended the late Bolanle Raheem’s funeral service. May God comfort her family and friends
May the days of the rest of us be healthy and long,” Obanikoro wrote in a message on Twitter.
A tribute session was held in the deceased’s honour by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) at the Lagos campus of the Nigerian Law School, located at Victoria Island on Monday, January 16.
Meanwhile, ASP Drambi Vandi, the policeman accused of killing Raheem, has pleaded not guilty to murder.
Vandi was arraigned on Monday before a Lagos High Court at the Tafawa Balewa Square presided over by Justice Ibironke Harrison where a one-count charge of murder was preferred against him.
