Nollywood actress Biodun Okeowo, fondly called Omoborty, has opened up about the painful sacrifices she made as a single mother, revealing she sold her gold jewellery and stopped attending parties to fund her son’s education abroad.
The emotional disclosure came after the actress celebrated her son’s graduation from Concordia University of Edmonton in Canada. Biodun described the journey as one filled with late nights, hidden struggles, and unwavering faith.
“I’m sharing this story to encourage every single parent out there doing it all alone. Don’t get tired. Don’t give up. Don’t let anybody make you feel your sacrifices are in vain.”
In a raw and inspiring post, she explained why many rarely see her slaying at events:
“I don’t know if people notice that I don’t usually slay that much or attend too many parties. I can’t. Every kobo that comes into my account is already allocated. International student fees abroad are not moi moi money.”
Biodun went further, recounting the toughest moments:
“Should I talk about the days I had to sell some of my gold jewellery to pay school fees? The days I stared at bills and wondered how I was going to make everything work? The days my son and I would stay on video calls crying?”
She admitted that people often assume single parents sending children abroad are very comfortable, not knowing the real battles fought behind the scenes.
“What they don’t know is that responsibilities don’t post themselves online.”
Despite the hardships, Biodun declared the sacrifices worthwhile:
“Seeing my son graduate makes every single sacrifice worth it… Jesus, I am grateful. I give You all the glory. It is not by my power or by my might.”
The actress, who has often spoken about the judgment and frustration of single motherhood, used this victory to motivate others facing similar challenges.
