Nollywood filmmaker and director Kunle Afod has made a bold declaration that true actors love their craft more than their wives, revealing that he would choose his career over any personal relationship. Speaking in a recent interview with Kasnasty Sugar on YouTube, the veteran star explained the deep challenges of balancing family life with the demands of the entertainment industry.
Afod’s comments come a few months after his separation from wife Desola Afod, with whom he shares four sons. He insisted that genuine passion for art often leaves partners feeling like rivals and forces difficult choices.
“I was born for this and I will die for it. What we actors love most is our work not our wife. We love the job we do more than anything else. If you’re a creative person, you will love art more than any other thing,” he stated firmly.
He went further to describe how the intensity of the profession can strain even the closest bonds.
“That’s why it’s not easy for our partners to cope because they see art as their rival. It’s only when you don’t love acting that you will consider leaving it for your wife or husband but if you truly love the job, you will prefer to let go of anybody for it,” Afod explained.
The director also admitted to periods of extreme focus, noting that he sometimes goes six months without calling his children because nothing can stand in the way of his calling.
Afod revealed he once turned down an opportunity to relocate abroad years ago solely because of his dedication to filmmaking in Nigeria.
“Nobody can hinder me. I was born for this and I will die for it. I had the opportunity to relocate abroad so many years ago but I didn’t embrace it because of this same job,” he added.
The interview has drawn attention amid ongoing public interest in the couple’s relationship. While they separated earlier and have faced periods of public tension, both have continued to co-parent and celebrate milestones involving their children, including recent birthday tributes to their son.
