Controversial Nigerian street-pop star Portable has fired a sharp warning at people who constantly show up at his Odogwu Bar to prostrate and beg for help. In a recent Instagram reel, the Zazu crooner questioned why some individuals keep flooding his space for assistance when bigger stars like Wizkid already exist with more resources.
Portable made his frustration clear while addressing the pattern of dependency he has observed.
“Does Wizkid not have a house? Why are you guys always at the Odogwu Bar prostrating and begging me for help? And when you get helped to an extent, you turn around and start spoiling the person who helped you,” he said.
The singer stressed that true progress comes from personal effort rather than endless reliance on others.
He drew from his own journey to drive the point home. Portable recalled that someone once helped him, yet he never overstayed or demanded constant support.
“Someone helped people like me. Did I sleep in Olamide’s house for three months? Olamide didn’t give me rice or any food. He only gave me a verse. I blew on my own and later got called to come get a verse,” he explained.
According to him, the key is to first make something of yourself.
“You also have to blow on your own before you get a verse from a glory helper. Blow on your own! So that you can collect verse.”
Olamide’s feature on the 2021 hit “Zazu Zeh” remains a pivotal moment in his career, after which Portable has repeatedly insisted that artists must build their own momentum instead of waiting indefinitely for senior colleagues to carry them.
Fans and industry watchers have reacted with a mix of amusement and agreement, noting that the message targets the culture of entitlement some upcoming talents display.
