Nigerian streamer Peller has issued a public apology after a November 1, 2026, livestream in which he dressed in a white and red costume with a wig, greeted his guest as “Jesus Christ,” and asked to be addressed that way.

The clip quickly spread online. Peller’s guest refused and confronted him on camera, telling the streamer that with more than 17 million followers he should not treat religion as comedy or mockery. The guest said the behaviour was disrespectful regardless of intent.

Peller pushed back. He argued that no one alive knows what Jesus looked like, so the costume alone did not mean he was claiming to be him. When pressed on his faith, he said he is a traditionalist who practises juju, not Christianity. He then threatened to dress as an Imam the following day. Others on the stream warned him he was digging himself into a hole. He replied that even Jesus would not want people fighting on his behalf and that taking life too seriously was the real problem.

The backlash was swift. Fans and viewers called the stunt irresponsible. In a follow-up video posted on his Instagram (@peller089), Peller tried to walk it back.

“Yes, I’m very sorry. Yeah I just wore that white cloth, I didn’t know it is problem I am facing. Christian people sorry, you hear, I didn’t know,” he said.

He added that he attends Christ Apostolic Church, loves Christians, and is also “a Muslim on one side.”

Many viewers were unconvinced. One X user wrote that the apology did not sound genuine and that Peller’s mouth moves faster than his brain. Others said he was not really sorry.

Peller, whose full name is Habeeb Hamzat, rose to prominence through high-view TikTok and Instagram lives. He has previously spoken about converting from Islam to Christianity and has faced earlier criticism over religious content, including a 2025 livestream with gospel singer Ebuka Songs in which he was seen speaking in tongues. Those earlier moments drew mixed reactions, but the latest incident has put his approach to faith and performance under fresh scrutiny.
