Nollywood actor and producer Rex Nosa has spoken candidly about how the shift to YouTube has strained relationships among colleagues who once worked closely together. In a revealing interview, the star known for his sensual comedy skits and serious roles explained that the platform’s competitive nature has created distance and suspicion where collaboration once thrived.

Rex Nosa described the change from the old marketer-driven DVD era to the current self-funded YouTube model. He noted that actors now invest their own money with no guarantee of returns, and the pressure to build personal channels has altered how people relate.

“YouTube has also turned many of us into enemies in some ways. Some people no longer answer one another’s calls, and we hardly hang out or spend time together. Things have changed because when your phone rings, you might assume someone is calling to ask you for something, especially when you are busy trying to build your own channel,” he said.

Despite the tension, the actor insists he still believes in mutual support. He balances running his own YouTube productions with appearing in other people’s projects, including recent work alongside Nkechi Blessing. He explained that isolating oneself is shortsighted because tomorrow’s success often depends on today’s relationships.

“I always remember that we all need one another. We are in a business where nobody knows what tomorrow will bring,” he stated.

Working with others, he added, helps spread his craft and keeps doors open for future collaborations.

On the personal front, Rex Nosa has stayed largely free of major scandals for more than a decade. Married since 2015 with children based in London, he credits his wife’s support and open communication. Early in the marriage he asked for the freedom to move as freely as his single colleagues while promising not to misbehave. Today he shares almost everything with her, including content ideas, and she sometimes records material for him.

“Anything you see about me online has my wife’s approval. Our bond is so strong that I sometimes send her pictures and ask her to check them before I post them,” he said.

His signature sensual comedy style, which earned him the moniker Mr Cum alongside the long-standing nickname Baba Rex, was a calculated move to stand out. He created unique expressions that could pass platform filters and gave audiences something distinctive. While some viewers enjoy the humour and others criticise it, he maintains the content is for entertainment and pays the bills.

The interview paints a picture of an industry veteran navigating both the creative rewards and the relational costs of the YouTube era while protecting his family life and career longevity.
