Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has confessed that he once underestimated YouTube movies, and says the platform may well have saved him financially.
In a recent post on X, the 39-year-old was candid about his change of heart.
“Can’t believe I was looking down on YouTube movies at some point. Hunger would have taken my life by now,” he wrote.
The admission resonated widely online, with many acknowledging a similar bias that has historically existed toward content released outside mainstream cinema and streaming platforms.
Timini made his acting debut in 2010 on Tinsel, the M-Net soap opera, before going on to feature in several notable productions including Breaded Life, Elevator Baby, Introducing the Kujus, Dinner at My Place, and A Tribe Called Judah. He has earned nominations and awards throughout a career that has steadily grown in both range and recognition.
His path into acting was itself born from a setback. In 2025, he revealed that missing out on the eighth edition of Big Brother Africa, after making it to the final selection stage before being dropped at the last minute, indirectly launched his career. That same year, he landed a breakout role in MTV Shuga, the performance that announced him to a wider audience.
His latest admission adds another layer to a story already built on unexpected turns. For an actor who got his big break through a rejection, crediting YouTube movies with keeping him afloat is entirely on brand.
