Nollywood actress and content creator Ella Emmanuel has drawn a sharp line between love and duty, saying intimacy should never feel like housework if two people are truly connected. Speaking in a new interview with Potpourri, she argued that sex is one of the deepest ways a couple can stay close.
Ella, whose real name is Emmanuella Ebele Onwuegbuzie, did not present the idea as a lecture. She spoke as someone who cannot understand how partners sharing the same house can go weeks without touching each other and still call the relationship romantic.
“I believe sex is a beautiful and important part of a healthy marriage or committed relationship. It’s one of the deepest ways couples connect emotionally and physically,” she said.
Then she asked a pointed question.
“When I hear couples say they haven’t been intimate for one or two months despite living in the same house, I honestly wonder, ‘Are you roommates or lovers?’”
Her own standard is simple. Attraction has to be present in more than one place.
“If I’m in love with someone and attracted to them emotionally, mentally and physically, I don’t see intimacy as a chore. It’s a natural expression of love.”
That view sits inside a wider argument about how partnerships survive. Ella said respect, honesty, friendship, clear talk and intention matter as much as chemistry. She wants couples to stop treating marriage like a contest.
“Partners shouldn’t compete with each other; they should be each other’s biggest supporters. When respect and friendship exist, love has a solid foundation to grow.”
She also pushed back against the idea that sexiness lives only in the body.
“Being sexy isn’t just about appearance. Confidence is sexy. Intelligence is sexy. Self-respect is sexy.”
Women who want to show their bodies should do it because it pleases them, she said, not because the internet is keeping score.
“As long as you’re expressing yourself because it makes you happy, not because society or social media is pressuring you, I don’t see anything wrong with it.”
She said people always read her the wrong way.
“People often judge a book by its cover, but in my case, they usually get the story completely wrong.”
