Nollywood actor Ebisan Arayi has dismissed fears that YouTube is overcrowded with films, arguing that the internet is large enough for everyone to thrive as long as producers focus on quality.
Speaking on the Conversations With Kenni podcast hosted by Kehinde Ajose, the actor was asked if he thinks YouTube has become saturated.
“I think the sky is big enough for the birds to fly. The internet is unlimited so everyone should be able to shine. Everyone should be able to do their own thing without creating negative impact on the next person, or causing an uproar against another set of producers,” Arayi said.
The conversation then turned to whether the speed at which films are being dumped on YouTube is hurting overall quality. Arayi placed the responsibility squarely on individual filmmakers.
“That has to do with the individual producer’s technicalities. If you’re technical enough to know that you’re supposed to create something of quality, you should create something of quality. If you’re not technical enough, learn to be technical because they’ll keep making people like you ask questions like these. It all has to do with technicality on that part.”
His comments come amid ongoing debates about the flood of low-budget YouTube movies that have become a major distribution channel for many Nigerian productions. While some industry watchers worry that quantity is drowning quality, Arayi framed the issue as a matter of craft rather than crowding.
The actor’s stance is consistent with the rest of the interview, where he repeatedly returned to personal responsibility, talent and professional standards. For him, the platform itself is not the problem. The real test is whether producers are willing to raise their game.
