The family of late Nollywood veteran Alhaji Babatunde Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has announced the remaining rites that will complete his burial programme and thanked the crowd that filled Ilaro for his funeral.
Veteran actor Prince Jide Kosoko released the message on Wednesday on behalf of the family. Ogogo died on Sunday, 23 August 2026, at the age of 66 after a battle with stage four cancer. He was buried the next day, Monday 24 August, in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, according to Islamic rites. Colleagues including Yinka Quadri, Femi Adebayo and Jide Kosoko were among those who attended.

Kosoko said the huge turnout moved the family.
“To our numerous fans, friends, colleagues, associates, and well-wishers, your massive presence at the burial was a great demonstration of the love and respect you had for Ogogo while he was alive. We sincerely appreciate every one of you,” the statement read.
The family said it could not name every supporter individually but prayed that Allah would reward them.
“May Allah reward you abundantly, bless you and your families, and ensure that no calamity comes upon you in your lifetime. We pray that your kindness and support will never go unrewarded.”
Two programmes remain. The eighth-day Fidau prayer holds on Monday, 31 August 2026, in Ilaro. The family asked friends, colleagues and fans to return in large numbers.
“We want you to come en masse to Ilaro so that together, we can offer our prayers for the peaceful repose of our beloved colleague and ask Almighty Allah to grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.”
Forty days after the burial, an Artists’ Day will take place at the Pavilion Hall, Ilaro. TAMPAN, the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria, will coordinate the tribute. Actors, musicians, comedians and singers are expected to perform in honour of a man the family called one of the industry’s great icons. Kosoko described the gathering as “a tradition and a fitting tribute from members of the entertainment industry.”
The announcement closes a painful week for Yoruba cinema. Ogogo spent more than three decades on screen and remained a familiar face until his final illness. The family now asks the same community that filled Ilaro on Monday to return for prayer and then for celebration of the life he lived.
