Afrobeats superstar Davido erupted in joy on Sunday as his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, was declared winner of the Osun State governorship election.
The singer took to X with the triumphant post “WE DID IT UNC !!!” accompanied by a video of pure celebration. In one clip, Davido lay on the floor in excitement while an aide congratulated him. The moment captured the emotion of a hard-fought family and political battle.
INEC Returning Officer Prof Joshua Ogunwole announced the final results early on August 16, 2026. Adeleke of the Accord Party polled 511,067 votes to defeat All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes. The margin stood at 66,252 votes. Adeleke won 19 of the 30 local government areas while Oyebamiji took 11. The African Democratic Congress candidate finished a distant third.
Adeleke, the incumbent, secured a second term after switching to the Accord Party. Davido had been highly visible throughout the campaign, mobilising support and publicly backing his uncle. During the vote counting on Saturday, the singer remained vocal, posting that Adeleke was “cruising to victory” and declaring “Shame APC.”
He also stated firmly, “I CAN NEVER SUPPORT APC IN MY LIFE !!!” and called on President Bola Tinubu to “call your people to order” amid rising tensions around the process.
The victory marks another chapter in the Adeleke family’s political story and hands Davido a personal triumph after weeks of intense campaigning. Fans and supporters flooded social media with congratulations as Osun residents reacted to the outcome of the keenly contested poll.
