Afrobeats superstar Davido has alleged that soldiers are attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State as the state holds its governorship election.
In a post on his verified X account early on Saturday, August 15, 2026, the singer wrote:
“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time.”
The claim comes on the day of the off-cycle Osun State governorship poll. Davido is the nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking a second term on the Accord Party platform against candidates including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress. The singer has been actively involved in his uncle’s re-election campaign.
Hours earlier, the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement across Osun State from 12:00 midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026. The measure forms part of security arrangements that include the deployment of thousands of police personnel and other security agents to ensure a peaceful election.
Davido’s post quickly sparked mixed reactions online. Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad described the claim as dramatic. He noted that the movement restrictions were widely announced by security operators as a standard measure during elections and not peculiar to Osun.
“So the right to freedom of movement does not mean ignoring lawful security measures put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible election,” Ahmad stated.
Some social media users viewed the restrictions as routine election-day security checks, while others expressed concern that a high-profile supporter of the incumbent might face targeted barriers. As of the time of the reports, there was no independent confirmation beyond Davido’s allegation that soldiers had specifically targeted him.
