Nollywood superstar Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has given a rare and transparent breakdown of the earnings from her directorial debut, Mother’s Love, revealing that the film grossed over ₦103 million at the Nigerian box office but left producers with just ₦22.2 million after heavy deductions.
In a video update shared with fans, the actress and filmmaker disclosed the exact figures.
“At the end of our run, we had made ₦103,094,663 after deductions for exhibitors, distributors, print and advertising, and value-added tax (VAT). Entertainment tax and withholding tax, all deductions and everything else from cinemas. The money that was accrued to us as producers of Mother’s Love was ₦22,276,558,” she stated.
True to an earlier promise by her production company, Red Hot Concepts, the entire net amount was donated to Slum2School Africa. The funds were transferred on 7 July 2026.
“On the 7th of July 2026, our amazing distributors, Nile Entertainment, transferred that sum of money to our NGO beneficiary, Spum to School Africa. The team and I are very, very thankful,” Omotola said.
She added that the money will advance the education of children from underserved communities and that her team will follow up to ensure it is used judiciously.
Mother’s Love marked Omotola’s first time producing and directing a feature film. It was released nationwide on 6 March 2026 and featured a cast that included Olumide Oworu, Noray Nehita, Ifeanyi Kalu, Lilian Afegbai and Nosa Rex. Distributed by Nile Entertainment, the movie enjoyed a solid theatrical run that ended around mid-April.
The disclosure has sparked conversations across the industry about the reality of cinema economics in Nollywood. After exhibitors, distributors, marketing costs and multiple taxes take their share, producers often receive a fraction of the reported gross. Omotola’s decision to give away the full producer share has been widely praised as a powerful act of corporate social responsibility.
“This was my first movie ever, which I produced and directed, and it will not be the last, God willing,” she said, while thanking her team, partners and every Nigerian who bought a ticket.
