Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has revealed the painful reason behind the collapse of his once-close friendship with Nigerian Grammy winner Burna Boy, blaming false accusations spread by former team members.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Nigerian podcast The Honest Bunch, Shatta Wale claimed that Burna Boy cut him off after people allegedly told the Afrobeats star that he had slept with the woman Burna Boy brought to Ghana during one of his visits.
According to Shatta Wale, Burna Boy had personally called him ahead of the trip and requested that he pick him up from the airport — a gesture he said no other Nigerian artist had ever extended to him. He went all out to host the singer.
“I was treating Burna Boy in Ghana like a king. I was showing him the roads of Ghana… I gave him a house, gave him cars. He wasn’t wasting money in Ghana,” Shatta Wale said.
He alleged that after he parted ways with some members of his team, those former associates began contacting influential people in his life with damaging lies in a bid to destroy his relationships. One of those lies, he claimed, reached Burna Boy.
“They told Burna Boy that I was fvcking his girl he brought to Ghana. He just bought it,” Shatta Wale stated.
Despite repeated attempts to reach Burna Boy after the Nigerian star’s career soared, his calls and messages went unanswered. He even contacted Burna Boy’s mother, whom he described as “like my mother” because of their previous closeness, but received only excuses.
“I didn’t know they’ve told them, and he’s decided not to talk to me. I just thank God that God has put Burna somewhere, but it hurts me that he didn’t listen to me to explain to him that this was what the boys were doing.”
Shatta Wale’s revelation has reignited conversations about the long-rumoured tension between the two West African music heavyweights. Fans on both sides of the border have mixed reactions, with some calling for reconciliation while others urge the artists to focus on their music rather than old drama.
Burna Boy has not publicly responded to the claims as of the time of this report.
