Billionaire businessman and music executive Ubi Franklin has bravely recounted the devastating emotional toll of his failed marriage to actress Lilian Esoro, revealing multiple suicide attempts triggered by public embarrassment and unanswered questions.
In a raw video circulating widely on social media, Franklin detailed the turbulent relationship that nearly destroyed him, from a dramatic no-show at their first engagement to repeated cold feet that left him shattered.
“I met my now ex-wife on the 4th of January, 2015. We engaged in March 2015 and I went all out for the event. But guess what? She didn’t turn up. She had left the ring and left. I was so embarrassed because it was a big thing on social media,” he shared.
The music mogul described reaching rock bottom:
“Have you ever cried to the point where you couldn’t cry again.”
He even fled to Iyanya’s house while searching desperately for her. After a brief reunion and a romantic trip to London, the nightmare repeated:
“The day after the AY Live show, I woke up to find that she had dropped the ring on the bed and left again.”
Despite eventual marriage and the birth of their son, the union ended. Franklin emphasized their mature co-parenting:
“We didn’t go on social media to fight, we didn’t kill anybody, we just became friends. Sometimes we fight and we settle. We try to leave a good life for our son.”
The lowest moment came when depression overwhelmed him:
“I remember when I bought a red CLA and I drove the car to the third mainland bridge to commit suicide. My only luck was my brother, Omini Stitches that came to save me. I tried several times but he always saved me.”
Franklin reflected on the pain:
“All that because I felt embarrassed and didn’t know what to do. I kept asking myself what I had done to deserve what I was going through. I had a good career going for myself, the biggest artiste at the time, and I felt like it was time for me to settle down.”
He now sees silver linings:
“I believe that the best thing I got from the relationship is my son. I still support her and wish her well.”
His powerful message to anyone struggling:
“When something bad happens between you and someone else, you don’t have to hate them. Sometimes, it’s an opportunity for you to learn from the process and keep it moving. If you’re going through whatever situations now, I want you to know it’s not the end of life.”
