Big Brother Naija Pepper Dem winner and entrepreneur Mercy Eke has sparked massive debate after declaring she is done dating men who earn less than her, citing past financial burdens and lessons learned the hard way.
During a recent episode of Toke Moments hosted by media personality Toke Makinwa, the reality star made her stance crystal clear when asked if she would date a man she earns more than.
“No, in fact, no, I won’t,” Mercy replied firmly.
When questioned about giving money to men she dated, she openly admitted to supporting ex-partners financially multiple times.
“Yeah, not once, not twice,” she confirmed.
Mercy explained her past generosity stemmed from having the means:
“Because they don’t have, and I have. I will give, I will share.”
However, the BBNaija star revealed she has closed that chapter after repeated disappointments.
“I’ve been there, done that. I don’t want prospect again.”
Mercy clarified she remains open to supporting a man who once had success but faced temporary setbacks but drew the line at starting from scratch with someone lacking financial stability.
“If he was a good man, I’ll be there and I will support him”
In the same conversation, Mercy also reflected on her Big Brother Naija journey, admitting mixed feelings despite its benefits. Citing the overwhelming public scrutiny and difficulty returning to normal life, which eventually pushed her to restart abroad, she said:
“I regret going to Big Brother, even though I love the benefits that come from it.”
Toke Makinwa shared her own strong stance during the episode, declaring she has never dated a man who asked her for money.
“If my man earns ₦5k, he should give me at least ₦3k; the day he asks me for money, he’ll never hear from me again,” Toke stated, emphasizing that such a request would be an instant deal-breaker.
Her candid confession has ignited fiery conversations across social media, with many praising her for protecting her peace while others argue love should transcend finances. The discussion highlights evolving expectations around gender roles, financial compatibility, and self-worth in modern relationships.
Mercy Eke, known for her business acumen and unapologetic personality, continues to set standards that reflect her growth from past experiences into a woman who values balance and reciprocity.
