Controversial content creator Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after a Lagos Magistrate’s Court found him facing serious charges over an alleged death threat directed at Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
DJ Chicken was arraigned before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi at a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos, on Friday, July 10, 2026, on a three-count charge bordering on threat to kill, conduct likely to cause breach of the peace, and offences under the Cybercrime Act.
The prosecution told the court that the charges stemmed from a video the social media personality posted on his Facebook and Instagram accounts last week. In the clip, DJ Chicken allegedly threatened Seyi Tinubu while commenting on the 2027 presidential election, with statements interpreted as a direct threat to kill.
Following public outrage, DJ Chicken released another video where he retracted the remarks, describing them as a joke meant to gain attention. He claimed he had no intention of harming Seyi Tinubu. Despite the apology, authorities proceeded with the case.
The first count alleges that the defendant posted a video containing a threat to kill Seyi Tinubu, an offence punishable under Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The second count accuses him of transmitting a grossly offensive and menacing message through a computer network, contrary to Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015. The third count claims his conduct was likely to cause a breach of the peace and intended to intimidate or embarrass Seyi Tinubu, contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all charges. Magistrate Onamusi granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum. The stringent conditions require one surety to be a government employee and the other a recognised community leader with landed property in Lagos State. Both must provide three years’ tax clearance, LASRRA identification, NIN, and recent utility bills. One surety must also be a blood relation of the defendant.
Pending the fulfilment of these conditions, the magistrate ordered DJ Chicken remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
This high-profile case has ignited fierce debates online about the limits of free speech, the dangers of online content creation for clout, and the sensitivity surrounding political commentary in Nigeria.
