Nigerian rapper Ycee has doubled down on his controversial comments about content creator Peller amid the ongoing “Olodo” uprising, boldly telling critics he stands by every word despite the massive backlash.
In a radio interview, the rapper dismissed the intense reactions, insisting his remarks were taken out of context and refusing to back down.
“I said what I said. I don’t care about any of these things. I said what I said, and anybody that feels offended by it, I said what I said.”
He expressed surprise at how widely his words spread and the number of people jumping into the debate.
“Everybody just took it out of context. It’s even worse than I thought because there’s so many people that are coming out to either defend or try to take jabs at what it is that I was saying.”
Ycee urged those tired of what he called “brain rot content” to stop complaining and start creating better alternatives.
“If you’re tired of the brain rot content that you’ve been consuming, then by all means, throw your hat into the ring. Get in the game.”
The rapper also revealed he has been encouraging fellow creators to venture into streaming, noting there is enough room for quality voices in the space. He maintained that the online noise has not distracted him from focusing on his music career.
The drama stems from Ycee’s earlier remarks criticising the rise of low-value “Olodo” content, with Peller often cited as a prime example of creators thriving on simplistic or sensational material that many argue is lowering intellectual standards online.
Reactions have been sharply divided, with some praising Ycee for speaking uncomfortable truths about content quality while others accused him of bitterness or attempting to ride on Peller’s popularity for clout.
