Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has firmly dismissed any romantic speculation with Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, declaring that the two share only a platonic friendship during a light-hearted interview moment that has now gone viral.

The conversation started innocently as Tems spoke proudly about African music’s global rise.

“It’s amazing, you know, coming from Nigeria. I’m just really happy where African music is going right now. Everybody’s popping off and everybody’s shining. So I’m just happy to be a part of that.”

When the host playfully brought up the trending goalkeeper, Tems first responded with humour: “Do I know him personally?” before clarifying, “I think I do, No, no, no, no, no. I don’t.”

As the interviewer jokingly suggested they “shoot our shot,” Tems immediately shut it down with a clear boundary that has fans talking.

“Shoot? No, no, no, we don’t shoot shots here. We’re friends. We ‘friend’ each other and we’re family. No shots.”

The hosts continued the banter, saying “Just family. Just sisters and brothers,” and Tems laughed along while maintaining her stance, keeping the exchange fun and light.

This latest development comes after Maduka Okoye gained massive attention during the Super Eagles’ recent campaigns, with his looks sparking widespread admiration online, including from some female celebrities.

Tems’ decisive response has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising her for setting clear boundaries while others playfully speculated about possible chemistry.
