Nafisat Feenah Hammed, the estranged wife of veteran Yoruba actor Akin Olaiya, has finally spoken out on the dramatic collapse of their short-lived marriage, painting a picture of pain, frustration, and alleged violence that forced her to walk away.
The marriage, solemnized on June 29, 2025, at the Central Mosque in Sabo, Mokola, Ibadan, barely lasted months before it fell apart. Akin Olaiya had earlier issued a public dissolution statement claiming his wife packed out of the matrimonial home without notice after refusing to attend an event with him in Lagos. He said he made several reconciliation attempts, including reaching out to her family, but she refused to return.
In her response video, Nafisat rejected the one-sided narrative and opened up about her reasons for leaving.
“Last few months, I left my marriage because I was in pain and frustrated, and I felt I didn’t matter. Nobody expects me to stay in a marital home that is filled with violence. If I were enjoying it, I wouldn’t leave. There was violence, and he wasn’t living up to my expectations.”
Nafisat also alluded to deeper betrayal, saying:
“Imagining after all the pain, your husband ends up marrying your best friend. What does that mean?”
She claimed people she trusted betrayed her and noted there were multiple reasons for her departure.
Nafisat maintained she is not one to publicly expose private matters due to her cultural upbringing, but felt compelled to respond after being dragged online with serious allegations, including claims of infections.
“All I can say is I and my husband have broken up… I’m focused on my own future now and putting my feelings and happiness above everything. I’m in a better place now.”
The rapid breakdown of the union has shocked many, especially given the public nature of both parties’ statements. While Akin Olaiya declared the marriage dissolved from his end, Nafisat has handed the matter over to God, choosing to focus on her healing and future.
