Nollywood actress Diva Gold has expressed deep discomfort and sadness after her tribute post to the late actor Alexx Ekubo received far more engagement than her usual promotional content, sparking fresh conversations about social media priorities and fan behaviour.

In an emotional segment on the Conversations With Kenni podcast hosted by Kehinde Ajose, Diva Gold opened up about how the overwhelming response to the sad news affected her. She confessed, saying:

“It made me feel bad. I don’t like posting things like that.”

She revealed that she struggled even more when her close colleague Allwell passed, eventually posting only a candle emoji before taking it down.

“Even when Allwell who I’m close with passed, it took me a whole lot to post about it, and even when I posted about it, I only posted a candle which I took down shortly after because I don’t like that kind of post on my page.”

The actress admitted that Alexx Ekubo’s death hit her particularly hard despite having met him only once. She questioned why tragedy drives more interaction than positive or career-related posts.

“I was asking myself what made people engage that post more than my regular posts where I’m promoting my things… I wonder if one has to die before they value them. You’ll even see them following dead people. It makes no sense to me. Engage people while they’re alive.”

She also touched on the frustration of having over 200,000 inactive followers who rarely engage with her work.

“Having inactive followers who never engage your work is really frustrating but you can’t force people to do what they don’t want to do. People are interested in bad news so maybe if I go do BBL, or start wearing bikinis, I’d get engagements.”

Diva Gold noted that posts showing cleavage usually spike engagement, but she is deliberately shifting towards more decent outfits she actually prefers. She is training her audience to accept her authentic style rather than dressing for likes.

“Nowadays I don’t show as much skin as I used to because I’m trying to make people get used to it. If I keep posting things like that because of fans, I’d rather stop. I make them get used to the fact that sometimes I might show, sometimes I might not show.”
