Gospel powerhouse Adeyinka Alaseyori has triggered massive backlash after urging Nigerians to intensify prayers instead of politicizing the ongoing abduction of schoolchildren, insisting that spiritual intervention is key to overcoming invisible forces hindering security operations.
The renowned singer made the comments during a live session while addressing the traumatic abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in Oyo State’s Oriire area on May 15, 2026. Gunmen killed one teacher and kidnapped dozens of children, including toddlers, who remain in captivity under harsh forest conditions.
Alaseyori stressed the power of collective prayer across all levels of society. She said:
“From the President to the common man — everyone needs prayers.”
She defended the government and security forces:
“You can’t say the President and our armed forces are not working, they’re working. They might have sent security agents to the forest and a charm will just cover their eyes and disallow them from seeing the terrorists—that’s where prayers come in.”
The artiste further appealed for unity:
“Don’t let anybody use you for political agenda because you don’t know what the next president will come and do. All we can do is pray for our country.”
She reminded listeners that the security personnel risking their lives are also someone’s family members who equally need prayers.
Her message has polarized Nigerians online. While some appreciate the spiritual emphasis, many slammed her remarks as insensitive and an attempt to excuse leadership failures amid rising insecurity, teacher protests, and public frustration over the children’s prolonged ordeal.
