Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has made an emotional public appeal to the Nigerian military, specifically addressing Brigadier General W.A. Adegoke, begging for the release of social media activist Justice Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack.
In a video statement, the actress acknowledged that Justice Crack may have erred by dabbling into military affairs as a civilian but pleaded for leniency on humanitarian grounds.
“I’m making this video addressing this to Brigadier General W.A Adegoke. I am humbly begging for the release of Justice Crack. We have come to understand that he’s done wrong because a civilian should not dabble into military affairs… I’m on his — and his family’s behalf — saying please, release him. We now know he’s wrong and I’m sorry on everybody’s behalf.”
The actress highlighted the difficult economic situation in the country, noting the injustice of detaining a breadwinner.
“Times are hard and it’s unfair and inhumane to take a breadwinner from his family. He was only trying to do his part in ensuring Nigeria gets better but I guess we did not know that military affairs are off the table for civilians.”
Justice Crack was arrested after posting videos exposing alleged poor welfare and feeding conditions of Nigerian soldiers. The case has sparked widespread debate about free speech, military transparency, and the treatment of activists.
