Nigerian actress Teniola Aladese has captured the attention of thousands after sharing a raw account of how much it now costs to fuel her car. In a post published on her X (formerly Twitter) account, the popular star detailed the steep climb in expenses over the past four years, turning a personal frustration into a nationwide conversation.
The actress, known for her work in Nollywood films and her roles as a producer and casting director, wrote that filling her vehicle tank had jumped from N13,000 to over N85,000.
“In the last 4 years, filling my car tank has gone from N13,000 to N39,000 to N68,000 … and now over N85,000.”
She ended the post with a sharp cry:
“God abeg. What is this country???”
Fans and fellow Nigerians flooded the replies with their own stories of similar struggles, many expressing shock at how quickly everyday costs have escalated.
Recent figures confirm that petrol now sells for roughly N1,227 per litre at major outlets, with independent stations sometimes charging up to N1,350 depending on location and supply. The surge has affected not only private motorists but also those in the entertainment industry, where frequent travel is part of the job.
While Aladese stopped short of pointing fingers, her straightforward words struck a chord. Commenters praised her for voicing what many feel. Some shared how they have cut back on non-essential trips or switched to public transport to cope. Others noted that the entertainment sector, already facing rising production budgets, now contends with these added transport burdens.
