Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has once again stirred conversation on cultural pride, warning Africans against losing their identity while adopting select positive aspects of Western culture. In a fresh Instagram post, the actor reinforced his long-standing advocacy for African traditions, building on his recent controversial advice against kneeling during marriage proposals.

Yul Edochie wrote directly to his followers:

“It’s ok to copy a few positive ways from Oyibo culture. But we must never lose our African identity in the process. We must never lose our African tradition or African religion. Our identity is our power. Be proudly and unapologetically African.”

This latest message comes shortly after his earlier stance on marriage customs, where he told African men never to kneel when proposing, describing it as a “very foolish Oyibo culture” and urging them to “stand proudly like a true African man who knows his worth.”

The actor has repeatedly used his platform to address cultural erosion. He has also encouraged the activation of traditional worship practices, describing ancestors as guardian angels.

Yul Edochie’s advocacy aligns with his own recent honour. He was conferred with the chieftaincy title Isi Ogidi Ntorobia Niine, meaning Warrior Leader of Igbo Youths worldwide. He described the title as a historic moment and a new dawn for Igbo land, adding that “with great power comes great responsibility.”
