Popular skit maker and actor Ganiyu Morufu, widely known as Ijoba Lande, has cried out over an alleged assault by officers of the Area ‘J’ Division of the Lagos State Police Command, claiming he was beaten and robbed shortly after returning to Nigeria.
In a disturbing video that surfaced online on Friday, Lande was seen with visible injuries around his eyes as people around him tried to assist him. The footage also showed him inside what appeared to be a police station, attempting to lodge a complaint over the incident.
Sharing the video, the comedian alleged that the attack happened just days after he arrived in the country from the United Kingdom.
“I came back from the UK 6 days ago and was attacked and beaten by police in Nigeria,” he wrote. “They collected my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life.”
Lande did not disclose the full details surrounding how or where the incident started, but maintained that officers of the Lagos police were responsible for the alleged assault and theft.
As of press time, the Nigeria Police Force has not issued an official statement addressing the allegations or confirming whether an investigation has commenced.
Ijoba Lande is well known for his comic skits and roles in Yoruba-language films, and commands a large following on social media platforms including Instagram and TikTok, where fans have since flooded his page with messages of concern and support.
