Popular Nigerian content creator and comedian Cute Abiola, also known as Lawyer Kunle, has delivered an emotional and tearful appeal directly to President Bola Tinubu over the country’s relentless electricity crisis and the unbearable heat that has left many struggling. In a video shared on social media, the skit maker revealed that even his solar power system, which he installed as a backup against the unreliable national grid, has completely failed him.

Speaking in a mix of English and Pidgin, Cute Abiola pleaded for urgent intervention as the situation became too much to bear.

“President Tinubu, my solar is off. Please, for God’s sake, help us. My solar is off right now. Please, everywhere is hot. The suffering is too much. Please, there’s no light. Please,” he said while visibly frustrated and sweating.

He rounded off the clip with a sarcastic jab at the common advice given to Nigerians to simply invest in alternative energy.

“’Buy solar, buy solar.’ Solar also goes off.”

The video quickly gained traction as millions of Nigerians related to the experience of spending heavily on solar and generators only to still face darkness and extreme heat. Some reports noted that Cute Abiola also touched on personal financial pressure, mentioning that he had recently sold one of his cars to manage debts and keep creating content, while hoping the hardship would not reach the point of selling his house.

The outcry comes amid widespread complaints about power supply across the country. Fans and followers flooded the comments with a mix of solidarity and dark humour. One user wrote that when ordinary people complained earlier, few paid attention, but now even those with means are feeling the impact. Others simply shared their own stories of sweating through nights without light or watching their solar systems fail under prolonged strain.

Around the same period, Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw also voiced strong frustration over the same electricity challenges. In a separate video, she addressed the Minister of Power, questioning claims that some people requested power to be reduced and insisting that Nigerians deserve reliable electricity in 2026.

“We are meant to have electricity this 2026. I’m just so angry,” she stated while criticising what she described as ongoing excuses and untruths.
